The Bull Pen September 2011.....Written by James McCann

Menzies turned tormentor on June 2nd

So another season is set to go by without silverware at Odsal, making it six years since the Bradford Bulls last held a trophy aloft.

The glory days of Brian Noble's all-conquering side seem a long time ago, as the resurgent Wigan and Warrington have finally awoken and even managed to knock Leeds and St Helens off their perch for the last two years.

After sweeping aside Huddersfield in a one-sided affair in mid-July, it seemed possible that Bradford could still make the play-offs if they built on the momentum of that impressive victory, but they came crashing down to earth during a demolition at the hands of Warrington on July 31st.
The Wolves tore into the Bulls like their name would suggest at the Halliwell-Jones Stadium, running in 12 tries to the Bulls' single effort and showing just why they have occupied either first or second place in the table for the duration of Super League XVI.

If Bradford thought things were going to get any easier during the home game against Hull KR on August 14th, they were sadly mistaken, as the visitors came to play and soon exerted their authority on the match, despite an early score from Marc Herbert. From 8-0 up, the Bulls conceded 34 consecutive points which resulted in yet another defeat and left coach Mick Potter wondering what his side had to do to establish some consistency.
After a gutsy display against Wigan earlier in the season, hopes were high that Bradford could create an upset at the DW Stadium on August 19th, particularly as the home side had one eye on the Challenge Cup Final with Leeds.

However, the optimism proved to be mislaid as the rampant Warriors showed just why they are the reigning Super League champions with a regal display.

Wigan scored 12 of the game's 14 tries to notch up their 11th successive Super League win and banish any hopes Bradford fans had of a close contest.

This 60-12 defeat, and the reversal against Warrington, proved that there is a long way to go until Bradford can even think of making the Super League play-offs again, let alone winning the championship.
